What the adverts are all about
Just to let you know why there are occasionally text links and image ads on my site, so it’s all above board.
There is a whole industry that has been born out of online advertising’s ability to be tracked, and it’s called Affiliate Marketing.
How it works:
Many retailers of products (merchants) encourage bloggers and site owners (affiliates) to put links to their products on their pages, and if they get clicked on, share a portion of the revenue of that sale with the affiliate who sent the purchaser their way. Think of it as commission for recommending something.
The affiliates have to sign up to the affiliate campaign (usually through an affiliate network – I’m with Affiliate Window, who collate lots of retailers’ campaigns and provide software that allows the clicks to be tracked. The URL (website address) that you click will have an identifier (often affiliate id=12335, for instance), that tells the affiliate network, and the retailer who to pay for the sale.
How much money do I make?
Most retailers offer between 2% and 10% of a product’s value to the blogger.
So, why are you recommending these people?
I will only ever put links to products and sites that I have used, and would recommend. If you think it’s crap, please tell me as I don’t want to keep recommending things that have started to slip.
